CGE News Worth Howling About

2016-17 Edition II

A Note From the Principal’s Office…

CGE Families,

Can you believe we are headed into the final stretch of the school year?! It will be an action-packed final quarter!

As you may be aware, TNReady testing will begin on April 17th. All 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders will take small sections of this test every day for eight days beginning April 17th and going through April 28th. Additionally, 2nd graders will take TNReady for the first time this year. This will be May 1st through May 5th. All of these assessments will be given in paper-pencil format.

Our students and teachers have been working hard every day and are excited to demonstrate their learning on the state assessments. Here are some suggestions that will help your child do his/her best during testing:

  • Be sure your child gets plenty of sleep and has a nourishing breakfast. School breakfast will be provided free of charge from 6:45-7:15 on testing days to any students who are testing.
  • Help your child get to school on time. We begin testing first thing in the morning, and students will not be admitted to class once testing has begun.
  • It is important that your child is here every day, but please do not send students to school if they are ill. Also, please avoid scheduling doctor/dentist appointments during testing times.
  • Get your child’s day off to a great start by encouraging students to do their best. Express a positive attitude about the test and confidence in your child’s ability to do well on it.

We are excited about all that your students have learned and continue to learn.

As always, thank you for your support of CGE and our children!

Cedar Grove Creed:

We the people of Cedar Grove School pledge to be caring, responsible, and respectful as we learn and achieve together.

The Physical Education Department

It can't be the final 9 weeks of school. We are so excited about finishing up the year on a healthy and safe note.

A few important dates from the PE department:

April 20-May 1 will be the mile run for our 3-5 grade students. Our goal is to have all students finish in less than 15 minutes. If you have a chance, before we start testing see where your child stands with this challenge. Springtime is the perfect time to walk the neighborhood, or go to one of the parks and run their courses.

Fifth grade will be visiting the Ford Ice Center on May 3 ,2017, as a reward from The Nashville Predators, this is totally free to our students who have meet a certain criteria- Please support The Nashville Predators as we make a march toward the Stanley Cup Finals!

May 18 is scheduled on the books for Field Day, everyone's favorite day!

The PE department is amazed by our Jump Rope for Heart participation this year! We have a few orders that have come to us late, but at this time we have $4,250.00! This has been one of our better years. Thank you again for your support

As the weather warms up we seem to forget to wear proper shoes to school. We love to see all the cute sandals of the season, however your child will not be able to participate in class with the wrong shoes. If they must wear sandals to school, please think about sending sneakers to keep in their lockers or classrooms.

 Happy Spring,

Coach Sherry Peters

Coach Jeremy Bjornstad

Our budding artists have partnered with Square 1 Art and are excited to provide our families the opportunity to have their masterpieces printed on keepsakes to treasure forever. Order forms will arrive in your artist's backpack shortly. Square 1 Art would love to place a keepsake in the hands of all our families and offers a variety of keepsakes at several price points to fit your family's budget. Also included with each order form is a sticker sheet of your child's artwork that is yours to keep for free! Please make sure to read your order form carefully. You can order online or return your order form to Mrs. Prior at CGE by April 21st with cash

or checks made out to Square 1 Art.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR SUPPORTING OUR ART STUDIO AND CELEBRATING YOUR BUDDING ARTISTS!

*If your child didn't complete their artwork by our Square 1 Art deadline and didn't receive an order form, they can complete their artwork and you can order directly from Square 1 Art separate from the school fundraiser.

Music Notes From Mr. Hoppe & Mr. Sanchez

Band and Choir Parents:

We will be performing one more time this year.  We will have our Spring Concert on Thursday May 11th.

We will perform together as we did at the Holiday concert. The concert will begin at 5:30 and there will be a reception in the cafeteria afterwards.  Please bring family and friends to see our final concert.

Talent Show:

Our talent show is will also be in May.  We are ready to show our talents on May 24th.  This will be at 8:00 on the stage in the gym.

Your child will receive a Talent Show Permission slip if they are interested in auditioning for the talent show.  The forms must be turned in by Thursday April 13th.  The forms will come from your child’s music class and can must be returned to one of the music teachers, Mr. Sanchez or Mr. Hoppe.  The last day we can accept parent signed Permission forms will be Thursday April 13th

All the auditions will be performed and filmed during your child’s music classes in April.  In May we will tell your child the results of the auditions.  For the students that make it into the “Live –on Stage” portion of the talent show there will be two rehearsals, during school.  These rehearsals will be announced to the teachers and students in May.

Please be on the lookout for the permission forms if your child is interested in auditioning for the talent show.

A Note From Your PTO

It's hard to believe our year is almost over!  We’ve had an amazing amount of involvement and event attendance.  It’s truly been a record-breaking year.  Let’s continue this momentum through the final quarter of the year!

Teacher Appreciation Week will be here before you know it.  At CGE we will be celebrating our teachers & staff the week of May 8-12.  Each day, the PTO will be surprising the staff with treats, everything from a coffee & tea bar to a fully catered lunch.  Each teacher and EA will also receive a special gift at the end of the week from PTO on behalf of all of the families at Cedar Grove. This year, we will also be asking students to handwrite a note or create a drawing for their teacher that lets the teacher know what they’ve helped each student with the most this year.  This is a week that everyone looks forward to! It is a huge undertaking, though, so if you can volunteer during the week or help with donations, it is deeply appreciated!  Check the PTO website (www.cgepto.weebly.com) for a list of needed donations.

We are asking EVERYONE to please make sure you have registered your Kroger Plus card on the Kroger website.  Once you’re registered, you can click on the “community” link and choose Cedar Grove Elementary PTO as your charity of choice and link us to your card. Once that’s done, Kroger will donate 5% of every purchase you make back to CGE. In the last 6 months, with only 60 families participating, we have received over $1000!  Our goal is to have at least 600 families participating, and to utilize those donations to replace the need for a Spring fundraiser next year. We know that is a goal we can ALL support!

Please make sure you're connected to the resources we have created to make sure CGE parents are staying informed!  Join the Cedar Grove Elementary- PTO Facebook group at www.facebook.com/groups/94271179767.  You can also check out the PTO website at cgepto.weebly.com for upcoming important dates, current happenings, and EASY ways to support the BEST school in the state of Tennessee!  You can always reach us at cedargroveelementarypto@gmail.com with any questions or to find an opportunity to help at your child's school.
