hey everybody I just wanted to touch base with you today and put out a video about let the games begin programs for easy and fun formative assessment if you can look into jazz up your formative assessments during lessons test prep to release capital and then this video is for you so check out these Tech tools and hopefully your formative assessment will rock their socks off so this is all about new tech tools or Tech tools that you might not have thought about for a while to complete formative Assessments in your classroom so what are formative assessments formative assessments we're talking about is taking place during the learning process so variety of tools teachers can conduct to 2xs and look at the progress of the students and intervene faster and easier so he 6 Tech tools that we're going to be looking to help you really amp up your formative assessments during these next coming months Quizlet and Quizlet live nearpod and Prodigy programs that we're going to go through when you can get into a little so here are the six tools so today I want to start with kahoot now all six of these tools that can live and have links on the student Resource page from the Cedar Grove home so if you didn't notice you can always direct students to students student resources and on that student resources page you're going to find those six links kahoot quizzes of course it's loading slow but all six of them are there today what start with why I like who is that it safe game sphere so you can create your own or that your own as a teacher so I'm going to give the students I need to go to this site but if you are wanting to find then you need to go to the teacher site so to do that we're going to kahoot.com so there are two different places to go once you're here you're going to login or sign up depending on if you have a account once you are logged into kahoot you're going to you're in the teacher page so it's different than the sooner then the teacher page so what's nice is that you can create or you can go to discover a kahoot and once you go to discovering a good who you can type in whatever it is that you would like to look for so let's say we're looking for a third grade math we're going to search it out and then fine find a third grade math so here's a fractions kahoot so what's nice about this is one stay play the reports so you can see the different questions they are offering and how long they have to actually answer the kahoot so right now we're going to pretend that we choose this one and we want to give it to the class so we're going to click on play once it comes up it's going to ask you do you have one two devices so every student has their own device or is it a team versus Team where you're sharing the device which option works great I'm going to use the classic divide 1 to 1 so once I click that it's going to ask so now what the teacher is going to put this so that students on their screen now put in that team 10 so that is kind of a nice thing once they're going to put a Japan and then be offered the option of a nickname or a name you can decide on that it picks up the inappropriate name so you can decide once there and you're going to start the game with the start button saru one question at a time where the students are picking the answers and then there's a lycopodium system on who's doing who were the top three winners and then you have reports that you can go to also is great for all ages and super fun at Supply if you need any help with process so that way you can intervene faster let them do some practice and then do the kahoot so that way you can really see because understanding these Concepts and how fast can they got them and that's all about kahoot so are next to Liz quiz quiz on the student Resource page looks like but as a teacher you're going to go to quizizz.com so quizzes in the fact that you're doing this together explaining answers going through and looking at the choices they make is it more individual needs a device and they're going to go through the lesson on their own so I'm going to show you a little bit so I've chosen a lesson as a teacher and I'm logging in as a student so here's the student from entering the gate I'm going to enter the game I'm answering with my name and answering it once I'm entered I have my little emoji and my name and suresite now I'm seeing how many participants are so this is the great part about this game the teacher starts and then everyone begins at about the same time so I'm going to go ahead and start it skip the games here I go so I get to go through all of questions at one time so I just got that one wrong because I could say it was locked up a little bit and gives me the next one so what does the word run which means he's checking in on me and how fast and if I'm getting them correct so I would go through and to answer all of these questions and then at the end it keeps giving me ranks on how I'm doing as a student so I really liked quizzes students have that motive and they're really excited when they're getting the kind of getting through and the real excited so they can keep coming back and forth to the games see what their points are and what their standings are so is great because it's kind of a quieter version of Cuisines it's kind of if you would like to do and students are really motivated so this is a great way to do a formative assessment can always find a lots of different quizzes that are already and I can already been created but you can go in and tweak those or make your own depending on what kinds of questions or topics are looking at so it's really nice here is the church accuracy is for your group and how well they did and who did what how many Miss do I even go back through and find those questions so it is kind of the perfect formative assessment in the fact that you're seeing some guy right away without grading is another option if you never saw or if you're wanting to try it just let me know that's quizzes so our next tool is Quizlet and Quizlet why so Quizlet is a great study tool for students to be able to take a study set matching with the definition types of things so it's I'm in this picture size and I've chosen a fourth grade science review and interactive so students can get this senior class so if you're into Quizlet you create your class and then your class clicks on the link and be in then it's in their account so that way they can access this material so you can do for us chard so then you click to see the definition you're clicking all these little set the top so I'm to learn about it then you can answer and then it go through and what's good what's master and how fast you can do it you can also go and you can write they can spell they give themselves a test match them up play Gravity game where you're linking the evil cat the picture or the vocabulary V Sue Quizlet slime is kind of amazing just pick your topic that you want and then click live so I want to take you here cuz this kind of tells us it's a collaborative classroom game so as you can tell each student has a device they log into the Quizlet live with a code once a half Johnny Sally and Mary and Emma and Jane and Mac together take their devices and get into a little group so now it's a teamwork situation so now they give them Tigers Bisons Lions all that good stuff question answers on their devices but only certain answers are on certain kids devices have to click on the answer and they have to agree on it as a team so bad as a team they're trying to get faster and better than the other team so it's kind of an awesome way to build soft skills were there working together and there are coming weather to communicate to figure out how does have the right answer and kids to play this so anytime that you have any of those vocabulary or something they need to work together as a team Quizlet live is your absolute go to for formative assessment is going to show you what did each student really did Eminem fixes them up every time so each time you play it is a brand new situation because you're with a different team or checked out Quizlet or check it out are fit tools today is quizalize I know there's so many quiz little Games and Things it's very similar to your you can put in your formative assessment students are taking to the inside seriously and tracking their progress that way they can see it. Grading this business they put in their codes I can do it from anywhere or device they do and their lesson that you can differentiate so when they're quiz is done their formative assessment is done you can actually assign activities for them to go back and look at what they have to retake it or even another hole that goes we missed it or not sure if this is like a great game changer for your formative assessments right type in the code that you go in you give them what you want them to have reserved assessment it makes it and makes it faster students are more engaged and then you have those results which is really great is that site when you go in so when you go to the teacher you're going to go to the zoo and then login I just logged in with my Office 365 account which is fabulous that way it's way easier I just pick my I accept and then I'm in as a teacher so it's like super easy and Microsoft friendly you can go in and add a new class here I created a quiz just for us on main idea that you can we can open it we can play it and so what's nice about this isn't needs help needs more differentiation should we choose more task needs improvements we can look at subtopics that could go under there and it's super easy to assign to students you're looking for something along these lines quiz that resource is in the student Resource page where students just click hang out so it's something that is real easy for you to be able to set up for those students and you started on your teacher page and then they get in and use that code and go to town this is another great for you to be able to use and have easy access for your students that is quiz allies our next tool is one of my absolute favorites and that is nearpod never checked out near. I'm real glad that I'm doing this so you can see it is a collection of really great lessons that has different levels of what a teacher can get free version is fabulous but it won't allow you to have this many lessons in here and it will allow you to have a student paced lesson but we found a workaround in some other grades so I want you to look at some of the lessons that are in my queue so I have some 5th grade lessons on opinion writing we have some third grade context clues we have a fountas and Pinnell Level D small group which is fabulous because I want to send Pinnell reading lesson you can download and use in your small groups that allows you to do a whole group lesson teacher lab or allows for a student pays less than if you have the upgraded account we found some workarounds for that if you want the student paints lesson where students can be able to complete these without the teacher facilitating the upgraded version so if you would like to use it you just what does share that lesson with me I can go in and create the student Pace password and then we can put it out there on the student Resource page which I've done for 5th grade a few times now so keep that in the back of your mind what's really great about this nearpod lesson is that once I have a nearpod lesson and I can preview it do a student face or Alive last I can also 3. Share duplicate add to a folder and look at reports so the reports are what we're really looking for an amazing formative assessment tool right we want to know who has it and who doesn't so the reports are really powerful so I want to show you under report in third grade for Helen a mighty we did some student Pace last and we did an assessment and here's the assessment measuring area and the unit using unit squares so now I want to go in and actually see this report so that way you can what we're looking at when we're talking about in the students were given the self-paced that they were able to go in participating correct in the queen so we can come here and go as we see the different questions and who got what right so I think this one just had the quiz because was an actual assessment so if I want to come in and actually scale and I can see students answered and what if they didn't get it right so this assessment tool is amazing in the fact that we can do this real or you're doing and pick it up and go in and look at your report later instead of just an amazing tool for so many reasons and I know this video it's like 6 we're looking at so definitely deeper into nearpod or email me if you're interested because I would love to talk more with you about how to make these lessons or student pays for your students so that way you can really see the powerful tools that are associated with nearpod there's lots of activities that you can embed quizzes different like where they can type in and send it to you it's just a great tool for you should be using for all ages so if you want to learn more about nearpod let me know you're going to go to nearpod.com and you can also put it in your waffle so that way you can click on it in your waffle and get to nearpod really easy this is a great formative assessment tool that I hope you check out our last Hill to look at today is Prodigy so Prodigy is a math game and it very engaging chisel is a little bit like what I equate to like Dragon Ball Z or Pokemon is what it makes me think of I don't get that kids love it was a great about this product Prodigy is that you can go in and assign students a contact like in 3rd through 5th grade the TCAP test prep so it's only giving them that TCAP test from every time you can go in and sign the different math content great about it is it going to give you some amazing reports that you can check out and look at and it also give them a pre-test kind of where they are but you can go in and just as a teacher and so what it is is students are able to log in and they can go and find each other in their little avatars math battle each other and I'm telling you the students are in love with it and if you've never checked out Prodigy you should really check it out and let me know we just had a webinar with people from Prodigy not that long ago and all of the teachers that were in that room were super impressed and it's kind of a nice break from i-Ready it's something a little bit different it's way easier to do at home set times in battle your students and they just find it awesome so informative assessment you can go in and see different things to the suit different skills and things that you want them to be able to do and the reports back about who doesn't have it and so you can go in and help those students and move them forward which is what formative assessments are all about what you've never thought about Prodigy for your assessments here it is give it a try I'm really hoping these six tools will help you this year for this spring when test time is coming up and you're really wanting to get in those skills and the kids are way over everything really kind of mixed up with one of these days and see what happens and these are brand new tools to you and you're trying them out I'll be glad to come in and give you a hand if you want to try one let me know we'll give sure I will come in with me if you want we'll make it happen during a lesson 4 minutes Essence are the way to go guys there in the middle their bed was in that learning so that way we can jump in there and really help their students you are finding those deficits and those potholes so let's fill in those potholes with something real fun so hopefully I'll help you this year and your test scores going to be out the roof good luck
