Suggested Bell Work:

·         Participants will enter the code to connect with your class.

·         Create a My BrainPOP student account under that class code.

Task 1: (10 minutes)

INDIVIDUAL “MY BRAINPOP” ACCOUNTS

• “My BrainPOP” overview video http://bpopne.ws/mbpoverview on BrainPOP Educators.

* individual accounts are the only way to access the full breadth of the content, features, and tools.

•  SEARCH TOOL for narrowing down our 800+ topics in all subject areas.

•  Topic pages include Make-a-Map, Make-a-Movie, and more. * Make-a-Map is for concept mapping, Make-a-Movie is for movie making, they’re both part of BrainPOP’s “suite of student creation tools,” etc.

• Let's look at a movie and see viewing options, including closed captioning.

Task 2: (1 hour)

STUDENT ASSIGNMENTS

·         Once participants are logged into their accounts, have them view their assignment notification. Click to see assignments.

·         Participants will watch the movie and take the quiz.

·         Once quizzes have been submitted, show the teacher view of submitted assignments

·         Move on to Game – show participants how the SnapThought feature works (camera at the bottom of the screen) by capturing a picture in the game.  Click the question mark on the bottom right to watch a quick video tutorial. To the left of the screen, you will see pics taken and can click on them to access. Participants can write descriptions of what is happening in the game or give examples as it pertains to class and submit them for review.

·         Show teacher view to see how assignments are being submitted.

·         Make-a-Map – choose “create new or template.” Click on question mark at bottom left for video tutorial. Participants will create a map and submit. (Maps can only be submitted/saved through My BrainPOP.)

·         Show teacher view to see how assignments are being submitted.

·         Newsela – BrainPOP’s newest feature provides a Newsela article that correlates with a movie topic. Reading levels can be adjusted. Each article contains a 4 question quiz, BUT the results are NOT submitted to the teacher. (Unless they have a Newsela paid subscription.)

Closure Activity (10-30 minutes)

·         Give Quiz Mixer Code or have participants go back to their assignments and click on that quiz to answer a few brief questions about the BrainPOP training.
